Hospice Philosophy

The philosophy of Access Hospice Care is that death is a natural occurrence; however, dying is a major life crisis. Hospice care strives to encourage individuals with terminal illness and their families to live life as fully and comfortably as possible.

The Hospice program is a service primarily for persons who are facing death. The focus of care is on the Quality of Life. The real needs of patient and family are determined through an individualized approach of honesty and concern. The patient has whatever control is possible in his/her treatment and the focus is on his/her needs, feelings, and what the team can do to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hospice?

Hospice is a special type of care for patients and families facing a terminal illness. The Hospice belief is that each person matters to the last moment of his/her life, and that we each have the right to have a quality of life, if not a quantity of days.

Hospice stands firm in the belief that every person has the right to die pain-free and with dignity, and hospice gives the family the care and support needed.

Who can receive Hospice?

A person is eligible for Hospice if they have been diagnosed with a life limiting illness and no longer wish to undergo treatment or if treatment is unavailable.

Where are the services provided?

Hospice care is available wherever the client lives whether in a home, a nursing facility or assisted living. Hospice comes to the patient.

What services are covered?

Hospice pays for all services, supplies, medication, and equipment related to the terminal illness. For example: Pain Management, Symptom Control Comfort Measures, Respite Care, Spritual and Bereavement Counseling and ongoing Grief Support.

Who pays for services?

Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance all cover hospice. No one is turned away for Hospice coverage for inability to pay.
